We can't get fired for this right?

Me and my friend work a coffee shop together. The owners from Iran and his dad pays for the shop for him so he can stay in UK. Because of this he doesn't really care about it n we have a slow broken coffee machine, no heating, and when we place a stock order and give him the invoice, he always forgets to pay it and we get our account locked so we can't make another one.

This wasn't much of an issue as we would just remind him after seeing it was locked, however he went to Iran a month ago, and while he was gone we ordered some take out cups. We went to order and realised we were locked out of the account. It took ages but managed to get in touch with him and he paid it, however because of this and it being the xmas period, we have been waiting 3 weeks for these cups.

We had a really busy week before xmas and got through hundreds of take away coffees, and now we have completely ran out. I looked in other shops but they are all too small and very pricey, so we've had to close the shop for 2 days now because we can't serve any one (neighbor is gona take delivery and call us when it arrives) We got in touch with the delivery people and they keep saying "they will come tomorrow" but they've been doing that for about a week now.

I know the owner is gona be really angry but theres naut we can do other than open the shop and refuse to serve everyone (no on sits in because its freezing)

Can he fire us for this?

Update:

We are under contract until July, but his visa can be renewed in April and he's planning on leaving the shop as soon as then. He told us this from the beginning as he just needs ANY kind of business to stay in the country until his visa can be renewed.

Update 2:

As I already said, I looked in the other stores, but people are still suggesting it so feel the need to elaborate: We ended up buying some cups, which were smaller and very pricey and customers were not happy with them. Our town is very small, it has one wholesalers and two supermarkets, I traveled to a larger town, searched a ton of places, ended up at a H&M and got the best cups possible. They were too much and customers were not happy. This is literally the first thing we thought of and did.

Let's get this straight. He cannot get a visa to run his Dads Shop. He is lying to you, he is most probably on a 6 months tourist visa and has to return home .

Are you being paid ? What is this 6 contract, ? that does not sound legal here.

You and your friend are free to leave and get another job.

    The whole scenario sounds bizarre.

There may be a restaurant supply store near your location. Get yourself down there and buy a couple of cases of cups. Keep the receipt, open the store, serve your customers (even if the cup doesn't have your logo), and settle the money when he gets back.

In the UK - No/maybe(very unlikely)/illegally fired and able to seek compensation via industrial tribunal and ACAS

You could have legally kept the shop open so that you could have claimed wages but served no one but you acted responsibly and closed the shop. The supply issue was outside your control but legally it may have been better to remain open. Now as to whether you could be fired depends upon several factors.

Are you directly employed? if so for how long? Do you have a contract of employment? Are you employed by an agency? Have you been directly employed for 2 years or more?. How many hours a week are you contracted to work?

If you add a little more info about your employment status and answer the above, I will add to this answer.

The “owner” is an idiot, find another job.
