Why is the suicide rate in the Western Midwest and Mountain West so high?

What's wrong with that area's mental health? Why does California have a much lower suicide rate despite being surrounded by suicide prone states?

Places with a lower population have higher suicide rates from boredom and depression. If you look at charts you can directly link suicide rate with population. I live in an extremely small shthole and have known 5 people of the only few thousand that have committed suicide just in the last 3 years.

Well, Californians seem to fit the old adage: " If everyone but you is running around in mass hysteria, obviously you have no clue what's going on."
