Is it ever okay to tell a woman- "If you don t want a man to stare at you innappropriately, cover yourself up."?

to me that is an example of normalizing rape culture, and is not okay.

"Is it ever okay to tell a woman- "If you don t want a man to stare at you inappropriately, cover yourself up."?"

Yes, it is sometimes okay. In fact, mothers used to tell their daughters this all the time in the past. Today, some people have flip-flopped to the other extreme and seem to believe that women can dress up like hookers, but should still be expected to receive respect from people as if someone's dress behavior has no effect on anybody else.

Nothing has actually changed at the evolutionary level. So here's the thing. Women are free to dress any way they like. But others are also free to think and say whatever they want about that. No one should expect respect for acting disrespectfully. I'm not going to get into a discussion about where that line of respect ends. But pretending that a woman who is dressed like a hooker should get the same respect as a smartly dressed woman is the same as expecting we give homeless bums the same respect that we give CEO's.

I suppose if she is walking down a public street butt naked and confused why she is causing a commotion, sure. But I'd rather leave that to the police.

Women KNOW what reaction they'll get when they uncover various parts of their body. Telling them this is not informing them, it is voicing your displeasure. Its certainly no better than a random person saying "I don't like that shirt on you" and, depending on the implications of how it is said, potentially considerably worse.

I fully believe a woman (or man) has a right to make a fool out of herself.

If her future employer thinks less of her because of what she sees, that's the employer's right.

Frankly, I don't care if people run around naked (well, there are sanitary issues), but people HAVE the right to judge them doing it. If we can judge people for their bizzarro hair styles, we can certainly judge them on the basis of how much they are trying to titillate the public.

There is no such thing as rape culture, and if women don't want to be stared at, then why do they show half their boobs and half their ***? Because they want birds to see it? The female hypocrisy here is ridiculous.

Of course it is ok. Providing people suggestions on how to avoid what they don't like happening to them is always ok. Frankly, if you're showing a lot of skin men will look and if some reason you don't like them looking your best course of action is to put more clothes on.

No , and women NEVER dress for men anyway , they dress for each other. Best for men to ignore them completely , I do.

I've never been able to understand women wearing see-thru tops or expose a lot of cleavage who go apeshyte because someone stares at them.

In my opinion that doesn't make sense. If you don't want someone to steal your car then buy a used, banged up, dirty vehicle and crack a couple of the windows. Same theory.
