What is more important: Freedom or Equality?

Will pushing either of these things too far take away from the other?

Update:

Lone Star Patriot: The people of North Korea are mostly equal to one another, are they also free?

Update 2:

Lady Laissez Faire: There are many places with equality but not freedom. the people of Venezuela are mostly equal to one another, are they free? More extreme: prisoners tend to be equal to one another but the very nature of being a prisoner makes them not free.

    Freedom is more important.

Yes, it directly interferes with equality of outcome.

No, it doesn't interfere with equality of opportunity.

The two things are symbiotic. Can’t have equality without freedom and you can’t have freedom without equality.

Humanity MUST strive to build a society that ensures both, othewise humanity will die.

Without equality, society tears itself apart with infighting eventually.

    Without freedom, society stagnates.

Edit: By the way, the people of N. Korea are hardly equal.

And today, with certain societies armed to the teeth with nuclear weapons, there is a very good chance that humanity might not survive those societies collapsing.

    Freedom.

Equal opportunity is important, but there is absolutely no reason to expect that outcomes will be or should be equal.

They are equally important. You can't have one without the other.

EDIT: The people of North Korea are divided into three discreet classes - the ruling class, the military class, and the working class. There is no equality between these classes.
