Should you put a 2-time high school MVP award on a resume?

Long story short - I'm 27 years old, went to a good university, did internships in college, I reported for an NBC-affiliate, so I have a lot of corporate media stuff on my resume already.

In high school, I won two awards my junior and senior year for Most Valuable Player in swimming. I left this off my resume because this was ten years ago and my one page is already cluttered as it is. My mom said I should incorporate it because it shows I'm competitive. I'm job hunting right now, and I basically need to know if employers even care about this.

Unless your Mom is in Human Resources with an up-to-date aka on-going education designation earned in 2018, I would set that opinion aside. Times have changed greatly since your mother was educated on and sending out resumes. Bless her heart.

No, do not put that on your resume as you said it is cluttered. And adding that additional clutter of some irrelevant items aka high school accolades for a 27 year old will be lost and draw away from the awesome things you've accomplished post high school. You want to highlight your current skillset, that makes you a great employee for the type of position you are applying for. Unless you are applying to be a swim coach, leave your HIGH SCHOOL swim accolades off of your ALMOST 30 YEAR OLD ADULT resume. Be confident...u've accomplished alot! U dont need to show that old stuff. Im proud of what you've done since high school...thats awesome bro!

Only if you are looking for a job that has something to do with swimming/coaching or training.

Not unless you are Uncle Rico and still living the "glory days".

No.. If you were newly graduated but not this long after.. all that does is say you can swim.. not relevant to a job.

as far as putting athletics on your resume....I would not. Being named MVP really means nothing to a business, now if you served as a team captain, and that put you in a leadership role where you were relied on to make decisions for the team, you might mention that. But the fact your 27...your internships and stuff should be your focus, not high school sports

No, never should have been on there in the first place.

At twenty-seven, no, high school and its awards are the distant past. Leave its accolades off of your resume.
