Washer and Dryers?

In your opinion, which brand is the most cost efficient and likely to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life for sometime? I'm looking into buying a pair and I'm looking into Sears.. do you recommend some place better or have you had a bad experience with Sears? How do you feel about used washers and dryers. Thank you for your help.

As someone without his own w/d setup for most of my life, I can say that the washer of today is sensational.. It will give you good continuous service for a long time. There is always one brand which is the cheapest of the cheap and I think it has a bad record. Most of the washers are good. But the best, the thing to look for is direct drive. These have no belts or thing to breakdown. They weigh like twice as much as a regular belt washing machine.

Sears is good. IMO, the Whirlpool top loading HE washer and non-computerized dryer are good. Not overly fancy; seem to work well. Whirlpool is made in the US.

Whirlpool, Kenmore, or Maytag all made by the same company. Check the the Kenmore is made by Whirlpool as they do sell some made by other companies. Very dependable machines that are easy to repair and parts are easily available. Avoid Samsung for sure.

Avoid Samsung or any Sears Kenmore that are based on the Samsung.
