Of course not. Missing their flight means it's already closed for boarding and there is no way they will let you on.

No. Because a plane has to fly whether it's full or not. Doing what you propose would be a pain in many levels and not worth the effort. They price their tickets at a rate they feel is what they can get. Sometines you just have to fly with an empty plane.
