at what odometer reading is a 2013 HARLEY Sportster considered used, old and tired? are they like a car in that respect?

trying to sell my sons bike of which i am a co-signer on the original loan, i have no clue about any of this. the bike is a 2013 Harley '72 Sportster, 1200 CC engine. Bike is not in either of our possessions at the moment, bike is in Tennessee, we are in Chicago and Baltimore....and my son can't remember the mileage. It was an impulse buy on his part (he HAD to have it) ... and now i'm stuck dealing with it. Thanks.

A 2013 Harley isn't considered old, but there are tons of used bikes for sale right now. Generally, motorcycles tend to have lower mileage than cars, so a motorcycle with 50,000 miles is viewed similar to a car with 100,000 miles. As long as it doesn't have a bunch of miles on it, it shouldn't be considered tired.

Bike engines aren't as durable as car engines. H-D hold their value compared to the "metric" cruisers from Japan. If you need advice talk to some dealers and ask them what they generally sell for privately.. Just don't trade it in to the dealer. You'll only get the base price.

Your Harley Sportster became USED the moment your state issued a title for it. Old and Tired? Depends on how well your son cared for it in the time that he had it. I have seen 20-30 year-old motorcycles that look brand new, and I have seen 2-year-old motorcycles that have been beat to death. It's hard to tell what condition the bike is in if it has been in storage in another state.

A 2013 can't be too old & tired. See what they're going for on eBay. You should be able to unload a Harley without too much trouble. Though will you get your money back??

Bring the bike home first and check the mileage.

But since your son had an impulse and now willing to get rid of it; it ought to be less than 3,000 miles. Maybe around 2,000 or even less!

If he had bought a small capacity Japanese motorcycle (Suzuki TU250X or Yamaha SR400) instead of an overpriced "Girly Harley" that's akin of having a two-wheeled chromed tractor with the turning radius of a Titanic, then I'm sure he'd be into riding by now!

Only an idiot or a Republican would buy such a heap...

Source(s): Started on a tiny Honda Cub 50 with around 4HP. Best thing I ever did. Now on an '07 Triumph Speed III with 125HP that can smoke most Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

I expect 4000 miles per year as an average on any bike.

A very low mileage would be just as much a warning as a very high mileage – engines do need to run in order to be kept at a peak condition.

He HAD to have it and you forced yourself in there because you HAD to sign for it. (?)

Pretty hard to sell if you do not know the mileage, and the bike is in Tennessee. I bet he has the keys with him too.

Good Luck, but somebody might come along and buy it sight unseen and send you a box of cash.

Take a look at ads for similar aged bikes of that model & market it at a price about 2/3 of the way between the highest & lowest prices you see. It's gonig t obe VERY hard t osell it unless you & it are together.
