Where did people get the idea that buying a gun is as easy as buying a pack of gum from?

Did the person who started that bulls*it never try to buy a gun?

Seriously, gun laws differ by state but for the most part stores are supposed to do a background check on you before you can buy it...which takes DAYS.

Excuse me but where the h*ll did you go shopping that it took a week to purchase a pack of gum?

Another thing is the price of guns. Even the cheapest guns are still hundreds of dollars! That's not even counting the cost of ammo.

And guns are a bit like clothes or shoes, one size doesn't fit all. As in one person might be able to use a Magnum without snapping their wrists while another can't even use a dinky .22 pistol.

Oh and let's not forget about the stats that require you to have a license just to carry a firearm. Which means you have to spend time and money filling out paperwork to get your license and fulfill any other requirements BEFORE you can legally purchase a firearm...and they still background check you.

It's even more paperwork if you want a license to carry a concealed firearm.

So no, guns aren't as easy to buy as a pack of gum. It's a VERY false statement and I'm still wondering how oblivious the people who started it actually are.

Update:

About the gun shows, from my understanding you need a valid driver's license or some other proof of your age before they can sell you a gun. So it's still not that easy, maybe easier than from a store but that's why people are harping about more restrictions on things like gun shows. A private seller should be, by law, required to do a background check on the person they're selling a gun to.

Even if the buyer only wants one so it can be used as a decoration.

    Incessant Lib bleating.

ALL FFL dealers are required to run the NICS background check on gun sales.

Many gun show hosts require all gun sales be vetted, even private sales.

Add to this the State laws on ownership and it can be a chore to exercise a Right.

Do you realize that there are over 300 million and I repeat over 300 million is the guess of the number of guns owned by people in the US.

This site shows that only 13 states require a background check. Most states don’t require a background check at all. At most gun shows is where a majority buy their guns or from other private sellers.

14 states require the buyer to get a license, but in many states you can open carry a firearm and (not) required to have a license to carry.

So, yes it is easy to buy a gun in most states.

"Hundreds of dollars"? Lol. Ya some guns do cost that much, but I can find some .22s for under $100

That is what the atf said. They can’t stop anyone from buying truckloads and reselling in private sale to whoever. No background checks.

The police hate it. It makes their jobs unnecessarily harder.

BUT you can still buy a gun very easily......compared with anywhere else in the 1st world .. thats why there are so many gun shops..and the cost means nothing to those who want such weapons ..

Truth it is not that easy, but far from difficult.

    >>Got connections to black market.

    >>Got the money it will take (often more expensive)

You can often get any type of gun you can imagine. (risks involved)

It happens that my state has few limitations on guns, about 30-45 minutes for background and psyche check, you can get an AR-15 15 round magazine for $700, or a .50 BMG Barrett M83A1 for about $8000

Handguns no different and no permit needed for concealed carry.

Understand transactions are logged and handguns must be registered with the sheriff's office within 24 hours, or they are gonna getcha.

Gun stores are not the only place to buy guns an estimated 40% are private sales. Some states are lax. Few states require a licence.
