is it ok to have batteries of 2 different brands for a tv remote?

It's fine.
You'll hear a lot of answers to the contrary. Mixing brands of batteries used to be inadvisable, because different brands used different formulations, and not all of them played nicely with one another. Carbon zinc batteries did not work well with alkaline batteries, for example.
These days, it doesn't much matter. Virtually all non-rechargeable batteries are alkaline, and they all work the same way. You should not mix different types of batteries, such as alkaline and lithium, but putting an Energizer in with a Duracell isn't going to hurt anything.

Why not? If anyone has any evidence of the remote being dead and not repairable because of mixed batteries I am sure everyone would love to hear about it. Just what do you think it would do to harm you? Blow up in your face?

No.
Always replace the old set with a Full set of new cells
of the same brand, type, and expiry date.
There are several technical reasons,
the main one being that unequal cells increase the chance of leakage.
Failure to properly match sets of cells is a BAD HABIT.
When you have a single cell that is good,
use it in something that needs only one,
such as a quartz clock.

As long as the batteries are the same size and are both new, it shouldn't matter what brands they are.

Probably will be OK, but .....
According to safety materials from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, mixing old and new batteries or different brands of batteries that have different performance levels causes the stronger battery to compensate for the weaker one, leading to overheating.
Meanwhile, as the weaker battery becomes exhausted, the stronger one can force it to discharge to very low or negative voltage levels, according to Energizer, which increases the chances it will leak.

yes u can have 2 brands of battery.
Source(s): when I change batteries in the remote, I took the last energizer AA battery and I put Duracell AA battery in the remote. - Kansas ZLv 63 years ago
Yes, the brand doesn't matter as long as the batteries are the same size and the same kind.
