You are if you did not get a Scriptural divorce. A Scriptural divorce meaning your mate committed adultery.

It is the divorce God hates, not the "remarriage".

The word "adulterated" (for which the word adultery is a form of) is also a condition.

If milk is "watered" down it is adulterated. Nothing can make it milk again.

There is some debate about how Jesus used the term. Some say that when Jesus said they were living in adultery he was stating the obvious- the second marriage would never be what it could have been. Others claim it is a "sin".

This gets very complicated, because later on Paul says that if two people have carnal knowledge of each other they are married. Which suggests that those who are not virgin upon marriage also are living in adultery. If your intimate partner is not your first and only partner it is less then what it could have been.

To further complicate the issue is forgiveness. If God forgives then it never happened as far as he is concerned. If God has sanctified the individuals then there is no sin.

There are just some things that need to be left between individuals! This is one such case. None of us can claim to actually know the hearts or the total circumstances. God does and I suggest only that divorce should be avoided. I will also side with the Apostle Paul on this issue- If the mate departs then the abandoned person has the right to remarry. As for the person that "departed" (filed for the divorce) may God have mercy on them and God knows who deserves mercy (none of the rest of us do).

What God has joined together let no man put asunder, is what the good book says. I personally believe if God didn't put the first marriage together and you knew that the first wife was not the right one for you from the start, you are not in adultery if you divorce and marry the one He did have for you.
