Stalin died in 1953. I assume that you know the generally accepted date for the start of the Cold War.

The Cold War era was from about 1944 to 1991. Joseph Stalin died in 1953, so he ruled the USSR for the first nine years of the Cold War.

Yes, for the 1st 7 of the 43 years of Cold War, but he was also the one who stated it, planned it, set out it's strategy and future plans. So, even when he died in office 1953 his policies/ plans were followed till at least 1960, so all together alive or dead, he was in charge of the Soviet Russian communist side of the Cold War for 14 years of 43.

Stalin was the head of the Soviet Union until his death in 1953. So...yes, Joseph Stalin would have been the head of the Soviet Union during the Second World War and the first 8 years of the Cold War.

He starved to death 19 million polish when they had ample grain in the stores. That is "COLD" and that is why he was hated so much.
