Heavy soil or odor means dirty clothing where someone has been working in a dirty environment and gotten the items filthy and stinking. Working in a barn, coal mine, some factories. You can see heavy soil. Light soil is just on clothing that was worn by an adult to an office job or such. May have some sweaty odor, but no real filth.

heavy soil- you've been moving furniture or gardening or playing football

light soil- you've been at school or the office

A "heavy soil" cycle gives you a longer wash time.. A shorter cycle {normal or light) is usually long enough for everyday dirt (clothes for school, a desk type job, etc. )

Heavy soil refers to things like kid's mud stains on the knees of their pants or sports uniforms, or clothes soiled by garden work or work on cars, etc. Light soil would be normal, everyday use, nothing so dirty you can see the stains. If you can see the stains, consider it heavy soil.
