What exactly did Rosseane Barr say that was racist? And should people be fired over personal tweets?

Comparing any racial group to apes is racist. I don't know about firing, but there always has been and always will be, consequences for words and actions.

She called a black woman an ape, that’s racist. Maher calls Trump an orangutan because his skin is unnaturally orange. That’s not racism.

It’s not libel if it’s true. But seriously, folks, Maher was tweaking the nose of an individual, satirically, as a counteraccusation to Trump’s accusations about Obama’s BC. Barr was after Jarrett’s ethnicity.

She referred to Valerie Jarrett as an ape (also Susan Rice). Referring to black people in that fashion is racist by any definition. ABC/Disney fired her and canceled her show (the agency represented her severed ties, networks that have rights to her show's repeats have said they will stop airing them, and Hulu has stopped airing episodes). She also falsely accused George Soros of conspiring with Nazis and falsely claimed Chelsea Clinton was married to a Soros family member (both lies).

For all of you anthem-huggers, in 1992 she spat while singing the National Anthem at a baseball game and grabbed herself in the crotch (she also didn't know the words). So I'm assuming, that, applying Trump's standard she should be deported.

Bill Maher works for a premium cable station that does not rely on advertising; their revenue stream is subscription revenue and selling series to basic cable for distribution (see Sopranos, Sex in the City). So there's no advertisers to boycott, while ABC has dozens.

Calling Trump an orangutan is in no way comparable to equating an African American with an ape. That's simply a fact of American cultural history. I'm frankly sick of hearing from people who are ignorant of that, or who are pretending to be ignorant.

She went too far on Jarrett. She was correct in what she said of Soros though.

She said something like "muslim brotherhood and planet of the apes had a baby=VJ" (meaning Valerie Jarret) Don't you know it's only those on the right that screw up that get fired..
