The neighborhood where you live should have political clubs where you can discuss issues and attend presentations, most likely, meet some candidates for office, volunteer to assist on a campaign.
Google Democratic club in ————- and enjoy. Don’t watch Fox.

There is what you are told. Then their is your own personal experience which says otherwise.
So, Use a variety of sources, don't stick to just one.
Regardless of proclamations of unbiased news, the ownership of TV news networks and newspapers influences their news reporting, as being critical towards the government's policies will hurt their own chances of expansion.
Therefore each news network will try to spin the government's propaganda to justify the government's own policies, foreign policy, budget, tax policies etc.
News networks have a vested interest for not holding power to account. For maintaining their own power.

Read current events: The easiest way to start understanding politics is to take 10 minutes a day and start reading current events regularly. While you may not immediately understand the broader context of everything you are reading, if you read it consistently enough, you will start to pick up on the story. Use a variety of sources.
You can also watch news shows from a variety of stations, Do not use just one, change them. Look at the same stories from different sources.

Read reputable newspapers like the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. Think about what you read. Look at what is going on around you.
Check sources on the Internet against each other for factual information. Again, think and do honest research. Also, put a little love in your heart.
