Why do Drivers STILL NOT Know how to pull Up the White Line at Lights or to the car in front, and Not Stop a car length behind one?

The same reason you don't want to rear end a pickup carrying a gas powered barbecue!

I have the opposite problem - people that roll halfway out into the intersection - especially in places where I have to turn in front of them - I had a guy sticking so far out the other day I was able to run my hand across his fender as I passed in front of him on my motorcycle.

They are correct not you. Should always leave room to pull around someone without backing.

For the same reason some people are liberals. They are just dumb.

Stop so you can see the road surface between vehicle.

Queues with spaces between vehicles actually start moving quicker than those closed right up to the bumper.

With spaces the car behind can start moving at the same time as the vehicle in front, not have to wait half a second for the vehicle in front to move before it can start. In a 20 vehicle queue that's 10 seconds gained.

Relax and chill out you will get to Maccy D's before you starve.

There is a reason why people do the things they do, and the reasons are not always good ones. We may interact with a hundred drivers in a few minutes. Statistically, one of those drivers will be the worst in a hundred. One will be schizophrenic; 4 will be bipolar (3 severely); 4 will be sociopaths; 4 have clinical rage disorder. 7 of them will be convicted felons, 7 will be alcoholics. A variable number will be under the influence of alcohol, cocaine, meth, and all sorts of other drugs. Some will have just lost a loved one, more will have recently been dumped by a lover. 2 will be in their first year of driving; 2 will not be able to continue driving next year. 20 beat their wives, husbands, boy friends, girl friends. 20 will have been beaten. These are the drivers around us.

Our only defense is to keep cool, think like a professional, and deal with the weird things on the road around us. Driving is never personal but it is perfectly willing to turn our lives into tragedies if we let emotions in while driving. Impatience will sure make it a lot worse. We need to be aware that we are juggling chain saws every moment we are in traffic, that we control our vehicle and lots of unfit drivers are controlling vehicles near us. That's just the way it is and we can't change it.

There are some places where other drivers cut too short on their left turns speeding and will wipe out the first car stopped at the line. 1 car length is a bit too far back, but you're only required to stop behind the line, not on it and certainly not past it. What is worse is the drivers who pull over the line , blocking crosswalks and part of the lane cross traffic needs. Mostly it's suv and large pickup truck drivers doing this. Well, the bottom line is, you cannot drive their car for them, just yours, and getting peeved about it only stresses and distracts you. As they say in Texas, "Drive Friendly.".

You asked this a few weeks ago and got reasonable and correct answers. You need to work on understanding how living with other people works.

I happen to like an emergency cushion!

While not a full car length, it is hopefully enough to lessen the impact to the car in front of me (and myself) if rear ended.

I would also like to point out that it may be a safety feature that goes with "automatic braking systems" which have a factory set parameter. True there is a way to nudge closer, but if it is there for assistance in a programed safety feature it might be wise to just not get ones blood pressure up.

For me, it's never a full car length.

It always is enough room to swing the front of my vehicle clear from a dead one in front.

It's enough space so the idiot who doesn't stop can't push me in to the one in front.

It's roughly the same space with my motorcycle - enough to get out so I don't get dead.

Source(s): "Hey! That's NOT a bumper back there!" - Frequent comment to idiot cagers that run too close.

It seem YOU don't know much about driving, either. You're neither supposed to stop one car length behind the stop bar nor ON the stop bar - it's somewhere in the middle, so you can just see the stop bar. Why? So if someone rear-ends you, you won't be pushed out into cross-traffic and get t-boned, too.
