Did I just make a terrible mistake buying Blu-Ray discs?

I've heard that Blu-Ray is amazing since it can pack a lot more content into a disc so I ended up buying a series I love and was robbed seeing the end of on Netflix and another movie.

...is there any way at all to make it so it's not f***ing widescreen?! I HATE widescreen, my eyes don't like it and I don't pick up as many details as I usually would've if it was fullscreen.

If not then I'm very tempted to send all of the DVDs back and buy their normal counterpart.

Also I don't care that humans see wider than taller, my eyes don't like seeing wider. They want to observe all the minute details that I can't f***ing see when everything is stretched out!

Update:

I don't have a separate Blu-Ray player, I'm using my PS4 Pro

Update 2:

It depends on how wide the bars at the top and bottom of the screen are. If they take up more than an inch then it irritates me to no end. My TV isn't big enough to give up a few inches and still show minute animations and gestures. F*** widescreen and their s****y black bars >:(

Pretty much all DVDs as well as Blu Rays are in widescreen format. They have been for years. Your TV (and possibly the BR player) should have a way to change the aspect ratio. It should be either on the remote or in a menu somewhere.

If you don't like it and it is returnable (which is rare in the case of electronics like cds and dvds), then return.

    You're obviously displeased.
