Is this Age discrimination?
Where I live plenty of people who work in cafes and shops are 16-17 years old. I am leaving my job soon (at a coffee shop that just serves tea coffee and cakes) and the manager asked me to find somebody to take over my part time cashier position.
I found somebody who has cafe experience, but she is 16, and he turned her down saying he needed someone who was 18 at least.
He was very angry at me for getting a 16 year old to take my job wants me to get in touch with her and apologise. But I can't say she wasn't hired because of her age can I?

No. Just miscommunication not specifying the need for a legal adult employee. Kids younger then 18 are subject to child labor laws.

It is not ILLEGAL age discrimination. Strictly speaking, discrimination is ANY time you acknowledge that differences exist.

It is age discrimination, but it is LEGAL discrimination.
He likely needs someone who has more open availability or is able to legally perform the tasks that a minor is not allowed to do.

Lots of places limit who they will allow to operate their cash registers, and that isn't age discrimination. It can be argued that any transaction is a legal contract, which only adults can make. At 16, she just doesn't have the qualifications for the job he needs filled. It isn't the same as age discrimination- which has to do with picking one equally qualified person over another.

Yes, you can say that. After all, it's true. If you're thinking about the legal status in the USA, that applies only for ages 40 and older.

Yes. It's perfectly legal. Illegal discrimination applies to those 40 and over.
Your boss has every right not to hire kids if he doesn't want to.
