What are the best fields to become an entrepreneur in right now?

I'm a junior with a 4.0 GPA studying Mechanical Engineering after 5 years in the Marines in the signals intelligence field. I'm watching my GI Bill dry up and am not looking forward to going into debt for the rest of the degree just to have a piece of paper that qualifies me to start working for someone else. I want to become an entrepreneur in a field where I can apply my knowledge and experience. Any suggestions? Anyone looking for a business partner?

P.S. -This is not the only tool that I'm using to make future decisions, so all the internet heros out there can rest assured.

You are making a false assumption. There isn't necessarily one field. People who are successful entrepreneurs are able to see an unfilled "need" and come up with a product or service that solves the problem. Think about areas where people are being successful today:

    Ridesharing (Lyft and Uber)

Packaged meal delivery (Blue Apron, etc.)

    Vacation home rental (Air BnB)

    Personal shopper (Stich fix)

Social Media (Snap Chat, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)

    Speciality athletic socks (Bombas)

    Shipping for online businesses (Convoy)

    Video conferencing (Zoom)

Shoes with a social conscience (Toms)

Plus you've got tech areas like security, robotics, drones, big data, AI, IoT, etc.

The truth is a person either has the entrepreneur "gene" or they don't.

This overuse of cliches makes it incredibly difficult to understand what the actual problem is and what you want.

Anyone can be an “entrepreneur”. It’s a catch-all phrase.

Right now, the fields with the best chances of work are STEM fields, but since you want to “entrepreneur”, the rules don’t really apply.

Lots of people need business partners. But, for semi-established companies, it’s usually a partner with capital. You sound bright, but there’s something lurking under the surface that will be a turn-off to many “ideas” people. It sounds like anger issues, or an offshoot of this kind of emotion and emotional instability. Intelligent (intellect and emotional) folks will pick up on it and avoid you to a point. Maybe some good psychotherapy can help?

    Good Luck
