This sounds like a homework assignment but I will get you started.

The Battle of Monmouth was the first time American troops faced the main British army in open combat, i.e., linear warfare. This was the result of training at Valley Forge by Baron von Steuben.

It is considered a draw by most scholars.

Washington was in command of the American Army. He was exposed to enemy fire.

The Battle of Monmouth was the longest battle of the Revolutionary War.

Artillery played a vital role in the Battle of Monmouth. It was the largest artillery duel in America until the Civil War.

Bad points: Morgan's riflemen were given only a peripheral role attacking the British baggage train. Historians believe that Morgan's riflemen could have played a pivotal role had they been properly deployed.

General "Mad Anthony" Wayne had recommended a full-scale attack on the British column but was rebuffed. Washington instead left command on the vanguard to General Charles Lee, who promptly retreated. This infuriated Washington and led to a Courts Martial of Lee.

The Battle of Monmouth was a lost opportunity to deal a decisive blow to the British Army. Hessian Captain Johann Ewald stated that the army could have been destroyed had the Americans delayed their attack until the column had reached further north, where it would have separated due to swamps and other terrain. Many scholars agree with this assessment.

The British were poorly equipped to fight in the intense heat of that day (100 degrees or more); they wore heavy woolen uniforms and were in short supply of water, the wells along their route having been stopped up in order to deprive them of their use.

The Battle of Monmouth was the result of the decision to evacuate Philadelphia by overland route through New Jersey, where the British Army was to embark on ships at Sandy Hook. This march was the result of a strategic decision to shift their campaigns to the southern states.

Molly Pitcher, believed to be the wife of Ludwig Hays, took over his position in an artillery company after he was wounded. She also brought water to the company.

The battlefield archaeology group BRAVO conducted amazing research on the battlefield, discovering significant artifacts and locating scenes of action. (Sivilich, their leader, is a very cool guy, I've been in touch with him). One particular object is a musket ball imprinted with a human tooth. It is believed to be the result of a gunshot to the mouth, probably lethal.
