Gap between OCS and BOLC II?

I’m hoping someone will be so kind to tell me what they know about this. Forgive me for being ignorant.

My husband is commissioning as a 2LT in less than two weeks. He has been given a report date for BOlC II that is approx. 5 months out but hasn’t received “orders” yet and they’ve been told they may not until the day before graduation. I’ve been searching everywhere trying to find out what may happen so I can attempt to have things prepared for us and our daughter but there doesn’t seem to be much info about this, and what I found certainly isn’t helpful... So In the large gap between commissioning and his BOLC date do they PCS us ahead of time and have him work odd jobs? Are we turned loose to do as we please for a while? Do you know anyone or have heard through the grapevine about what happened with someone else in this situation? Looking for anything!! Haha.

Also, my husband is active duty. Not ROTC or any previous military experience.

Thank you in advance to those who take the time to answer.

Having a long gap is very unusual. The report date was probably given to reserve a spot in a class. There is a good chance, he will be assigned to an earlier class and given orders to that. The class may be "full" right now, but officers can drop or slots can open.

They will not PCS him until he is assigned to a unit for more than 179 days. BOLC courses are designed to be less than 179 days. He will not be "turned loose".

You go by his current home station. If he was on a base and entered OCS, it would be where he was before OCS. OCS is only 90 days, so they don't do a PCS move. If his BOLC is at FT Benning, they would amend his orders from TDY to PCS and you would go through the PCS benefits for a family move. If he is going elsewhere, his orders will be amended to add another TDY location and time. If the total number of days goes over 179, he will have to return to his home station or they will need to amend the orders to become PCS.

You can't have back-to-back TDY orders, but you can extend current orders.

They will not keep him at OCS. They will NORMALLY send him to his next assignment (BOLC II). At BOLC, he will be in a waiting assignment. They will probably encourage him to take leave and won't be too strict about him reporting in. It is more to ensure he is taken care of and doesn't get into trouble. As an untrained 2LT, he isn't of much use. If he reports in early, he may get assigned to an earlier class.

This isn't much of an answer for you. You will just need to wait until everything settles. Don't make any long term decisions, leases, or moves before you have orders.

he will not know until it happens. it could be any of the scenarios you list. assume, however, that you will not be going anywhere during his follow on training.

Sorry that your question hasn't been answered in two weeks, but this Yahoo Answers has had some problems the last couple of weeks where questions dissapear from the listings after a couple of hours and maybe not appear again.

There's only a couple of officers, recently retired, who answer questions on here so your chances of getting an answer are pretty slim. I'm retired AF enlisted so I wouldn't have a clue on the flow from OCS to BOLC..
