Why does the FBI have to investigate the Christine Blasey Ford claims ?

One of the jobs of the FBI is to perform background investigations of high-level government office nominees. The late accusation is a problem though in this particular instance. the investigation was already done and did not turn anything up, and the validity of this accusation is open to opinion. They should investigate it enough to establish whether there is any truth to it. Shouldn't take long to establish if there ever was such an event and who was there, and talk to those people. If we were dealing with dog-catcher, I wouldn't delay the appointment over it, but we are dealing with a permanent appointment to the Supreme Court and we really ought to find out first.

The only rush here is political. We waited a lot longer to replace the last vacancy and it didn't cause major problems.

I think if you are going to do something, it is best to do it right. Apparently that has become a minority opinion in the USA, sadly.

The statute of limitations has run out, so the police have no jurisdiction. The FBI might be able to shed light on the subject and we certainly need some, one way or the other.

The FBI already said they cannot investigate it. There was no federal crime.

The FBI has nothing to investigate. Ford obviously won't show up on Monday. Dems have failed on this.
