How long before I can give a found dog away.?
I found a beautiful Husky the other day. I posted found dog ads on three different city FB pages plus my own FB page, also craigslist and the nextdoor app. I also took him to check for a microchip (no chip). I do not want to take him to the pound and risk euthanasia. How long before I can give him to a nice family? (My landlord says no dogs).

Check your local husky rescues even ones that aren’t local would be able to take him ..hope he finds his fur ever home!

Take him to a no-kill shelter because that is where someone is going to look. Not everyone has the internet. You do NOT have the right to sell/give away someone else's dog before the shelter has held it for x amount of days and THEN it would be available for adoption.

This isn't your call or your job. Either surrender the dog to the ASPCA/Human society or contact a husky rescue group in your area. In most places, you can't consider a lost/found dog relinquished by the owners for a full month. You'd be wise to contact veterinarian's in the area too. Often people call them if a dog is lost.

I would find a Husky Rescue group rather then a shelter. If you have no response in another week, I say find the dog a new home. How long did your landlord give you to have the dog out of your place? You must go by that date.

Check with the pound to see if anyone reported they lost their dog. You need to check the paper for lost dog ads. It is not enough that you posted stuff, you need to look for stuff posted by the owners. Just as safety issue, you know nothing about this dog, he could be short all of his vaccinations, he could have a history of biting, by keeping him you assume all risks for him. I suggest you take him to the pound. If he is such a beautiful dog they will find a home for him.

Depends on the laws where you live. In most states of the US, the dog must be turned over to animal control to serve out the legal stray hold period, or at least reported found to animal control and a photo left, before you could be awarded ownership and could transfer that ownership to someone else. A "beautiful husky" will not be euthanized by animal control unless it is aggressive.

You can call any rescue to see if they have room for him. Things are so full & over flowing there may not be any room for him any where. You need to exhaust all means of trying to find its owner. You need to notify Animal Control that you have the dog, in case some one calls looking for that dog. You need to notify Animal Humane ***. that you have found a dog. & it could take as much as a month to exhaust all means (30 days), You can let someone else take care of it temporarily but you have no right to keep the dog or give it away, that is theft, stealing.
Best to actively look for owners, work hard in that direction. or relinquish the dog, so it will be where people go looking for lost dogs. The pound. He will be held for several days & then up for adoption until adopted. I'm sure a dog like that would be adopted & not euthanized.
Dogs owners are so worried about him. Scared to death they have lost him for good. Searching & searching..... Their search will lead to you & your search will lead to them. Keep trying. That dog needs to find its owners & have a happy reunion. I am in total panic if my dogs are loose. I can't imagine them being completely gone. Find his owners. reunite, it is important to him & his rightful owners. Dog theft is a federal offence so it is a felony charge. Do what is right for the dog & keep yourself safe.

Awww that's so sweet of you and you sound like a really nice person. I think you should give it to the vets or someone you trust that can take care of the dog.

Depends on laws in your area.. But generally its a MONTH of exhausting all attempts to locate the owner before you can keep or give away a found dog.
If you cant keep him, take him to the pound. If anyone is interested, they can adopt the dog once the stray hold is up
