Do meerkats breastfeed?

    Yes, meerkats do breastfeed. They have mammary glands (breasts). A female who has given birth to a litter lactates (produces milk) and feeds her infants with milk from her mammary glands (breastfeeds).

    Yes, but they only breastfeed other meerkats. If you try to suckle one yourself they get very cranky.

    Rodents don't have nipples that high up, they're located 'down low' same as 99% of mammals.

    Yes. They're mammals. But here's a fun fact about that. Because meerkat societies are so hierarchical, dominant female meerkats force less dominant females to be their wet nurses for their young so they can rule without the inconvenience of having to breastfeed their young.
