What age should a child learn pythagoras theorem ?

Is 4 years too young to be able to quote word for word "the square on the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the square on the other two sides" even if the child doesnt yet fully understand its meaning ?

If your kid's a PRODIGY I would encourage him/her to learn it. I would encourage you to get your kid tested.

    What do you think?

I would not say that there is a lot of support either way for the benefit or harm of such a hypothetical test. There is evidence that treating children as capable of greater understanding than we normally attribute to them (speaking to them more as adults than we tend to do) can produce children with elevated cognitive capabilities. There are psycho-social impacts that derive as a consequence.

I cannot say if there are four year old humans who can understand the actual meaning of the theory, or not. I have never tried. Some kids are pretty freaking sharp and take on some pretty advanced concepts with surprising understanding, though, that much I can say from experience.

Some kids are frighteningly smart. Many are not, naturally. But some are.

At the age of four, Abby Julo had memorized a huge amount of information such as the heads of state for every country in the world, the governors of every American state, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, etc. But most people wouldn't be able to do this at any age. Furthermore, understanding a theory such as Pythagoras is more important than memorizing the wording.

Four years is definitely too young to consider Pythagoras.

Truly stupid. Instead, teach the child what a triangle is, and then try to teach the child what a RIGHT triangle is. The visual difference between a square corner and a non-square corner is something that a child of that age should be able to learn, with some practice.

That is too young, but better still draw a coloured picture of a right angle triangle and explain it to the 4 year old.

You can repeat words and not understand the meaning. But its an achievement none the less

12/13/14 ... the child needs some mental development to understand what is being MEMORIZED. There is a distinct difference between memorization and learning.

Too young. If they are still doing their times table they are not ready.

There was a fashion for not learning things parrot fashion, but I am glad I did.

x equals minus b plus or minus the square root of b squared minus four ac all over two a.
