Cannot give a two weeks notice?
Okay I am in college part time and work part time making minimum wage. I just got offered a job making two dollars more an hour with a more flexible schedule. My current job is alright but the management isn’t really nice. The new job wants me to start right away. What should I do? I have school, a kid... so it’s going to be very hard to work two jobs. This is the first job that I could not give a notice to.

Are you serious about working two jobs? Have a talk with the job that you have to give up for the better job. Have a talk and then TAKE the other job. Tell them that you are so sorry but you have to leave without giving a two week warning. You have to leave NOW. So sorry. Then get that other job and love it to death.

Submit your letter or resignation for the date you plan to leave. It is not like you are going back. They will get over it.

You don't have to give notice but if you wan to use your current job as a reference then you should give as much notice as possible. If they really want you to work for them they will wait for you.
A co worker of mine was in a similar situation, but my boss wanted her to give 2 weeks notice. The company wanted her to work right away but they were willing to wait for her last 2 weeks.
Just explain to your current boss about the job. If you have to give notice, explain to the other job that you have to give what ever notice you can and when you're able to start.
In the future, always tell them that you may have to give your current boss 1-2 weeks notice before you leave.

There's no law that says you have to give two weeks notice.
You don't owe them any more respect than they give you.
Grow up.

How much notice CAN you give and do you think your current job will provide you with a reference?

Not that big of a deal. You can pretty much rule out using them as a reference in the future if you just up and quit. Decide what that really means to you. People quit jobs everyday without proper notice.

See if your state is at will...you don't have to give two weeks notice in that case. It's really a courtesy anyway. Do what's best for you and yours, always.
