As a christian either we are either completely committed to do God's will in everything. We are willing to take a stand for the truth of God's word, preach to others as Jesus commanded (Matthew 28:19,20) and do our absolute best to try and observe God's way of doing things (we will fall short but we are trying).

If someone is half hearted towards God they might sometimes do what pleases God, but if it interferes with what they want to do, they might choose to ignore what God asks and do what they feel like doing. Hence, half hearted.

It means that a person acknowledges God, but overlooks the issues of God in their daily life. Such people have a wishy-washy faith; they are called Carnal Christians.

Jehovah wants each of us to come into and remain in a condition acceptable to him. Concerning the righteous one, Jeremiah acknowledged: “You, O Jehovah of armies, are examining the righteous one; you are seeing the kidneys and the heart.” (Jer. 20:12) If the Almighty is examining the heart of even the righteous one, should not we ourselves do some honest self-inspection? (Read Psalm 11:5.) As we do so, we might discern an attitude, a goal, or a deep feeling that needs attention. We could recognize something that is making our heart less sensitive, some ‘foreskin of our heart,’ as it were, which we realize ought to be removed. That would be figurative heart surgery.

According to Psalms 119:10 it shows that when we seek God with our whole heart we ask not to stray from his commandments, so half hearted would be the opposite of this that although we may have the desire to obey God in our hearts our actions are opposite of that.

"Half-hearted towards God" is to be lukewarm towards God.

Those who are Hot or Cold towards God, Hot for God and Cold against God,

at least make a stand and God knows if you are for him or against him.

Those who are lukewarm neither stand for God or against God.

They have no backbone and will not make a stand. God does not think much of the lukewarm,

they are to God worst then those who are cold and are against him.

Revelation 3:16 “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.”

    Very important!

What happens if someone starts a business, either is half hearted or becomes it?

You've heard the scary stats on new businesses? Most FAIL, many in the first year, many more by 5 years.

If they get past 5 years, it might!!..work out..might.

Entrepreneur is very hard, exciting for some but that's their drive.

    Same idea for God.

Why would I...sort of..sometimes be a Christian? Won't work either.

    Both are commitment.

I knew on some inarticulated level, 'this was IT', no turning back.

    Having come out of the world, I now know this was a one time offer;

walk away, never return. I jumped on it! Never looked back, never doubted, yes, cried out once in a while.

Love the Lord Thy God with ALL your heart...

(Then porn is not an option, nor considered, for example)

Then LOVE became my new commandment...a high calling.

It means to not be fully devoted, or to just be "lukewarm."

Not fully committed. Without enthusiasm or energy.

"I know your deeds; you are neither cold nor hot. How I wish you were one or the other! So because you are lukewarm— neither hot nor cold— I am about to vomit you out of My mouth!"
