removes excess, unnecessary materials from the body fluids of an organism, so as to help maintain internal chemical homeostasis and prevent damage to the body.

The excretory system is the system of an organism's body that performs the function of excretion, the bodily process of discharging wastes. For example, the system of organs that regulates the amount of water in the body and filters and eliminates from the blood the wastes produced by metabolism. The principal organs of the excretory system are the kidneys, ureters, urethra, and urinary bladder.

The excretory system is essential to one’s health. Its responsibility is to remove waste from the body. The excretory system is made up of numerous organs that work in unison to ensure that waste is effectively removed from your body.

The excretory system removes metabolic waste products from the body as well as some substances taken in excess. An example of the latter will be vitamin C. If you take more than your body needs it is excreted.

Some excretion occurs in the lungs where the metabolic waste product carbon dioxide is excreted as a gas when you exhale.

Most excretion happens as substances are filtered from the blood by the kidneys. Waste products may have been modified in the liver prior to being excreted. The waste and excess products removed from the blood by the kidneys is excreted from the body in urine.
