If he/she is trying then you should stick around. Things may be tough right now. But remember bad times aren't permanent. What you are going through shall pass. If you still loved them, you wouldnt do that. Think about how they must be feeling. No job and cant provide for their family. It is demoralising and heartbreaking. You feel like you are not good enough. Then add the fact that person you love the most wants to end the marriage. You'd make them feel like a complete and utter failure. Plus, what happened to through sickness and health, bad times and good?

If he/she is truly trying, of course. You don't ditch someone you love because of temporary struggle.
If he/she is sending out the occasional application and not doing everything he/she can because he/she doesn't really want to work, then you consider a deadline.
