Why do Americans think that Mexican is a race? Mexican come in all different skin colors?

It's because they're ignorant. The race they're thinking about is mestizo (A mix of Spanish and Native American) which is the majority in a lot of Latin American countries, not just Mexico.

You're *not* the people from Latina / Latium, You're not the people from Hispania ... however you are from Mezoamerica. And not coincidentally, Mexico is derived from Mezi.

But I'm all for calling you Indios or Mezita if you want.

Mexican has been racialized. So anyone who is a Spanish speaking stereotypical Mediterranean looking person (olive-skinned Caucasian with a mustache) to stereotypical Indio looking person is a Mexican.

As an American I can assure you that we don't all think Mexican is a race. Not even the "la Raza" Mexicans who tell us otherwise can convince us.

its not just whites, blacks also think Mexican is a race. mexico is a nation not a blood type and/or skin tone. anyone with citizenship in mexico, regardless of ancestry is considered Mexican. skin tones is nothing more then skin. nothing more.

Yet gringos can be Mexican too.

We all know what Mexican means, but real Mexicans are Brown.

If there is a White Mexican, they are called a White Mexican. If there is a Black Mexican, they are are called Afro Mexican. Only Brown Mexicans are just called Mexicans.

@Jake- Idiot, I know that. That's already what I was talking about. Learn how to read. Anyone can have Mexico nationality and citizen ship, but real Mexicans are Brown, cuz they are predominately indigneous Mexican.

I don't know anyone who thinks Mexican is a race. A Mexican is a citizen of Mexico just like a Canadian is a citizen of Canada.
