The bank will tell you what to do. But, almost all banks, you can do online banking, which includes paying bills, or even can transfer funds from 1 bank to another.

The problem of a new bank is that if for instance the father has (automatic) w/drawals to anyone, then would have to transfer to the new one. Or, if receiving SS income, then by changing banks can take as long as 3 months for SS to make the transfer.

When my late husband died, then at that time both of us were receiving SS income. I had my own account in my bank and we had a joint account in another bank. Each of our SS checks were deposited into each bank. But when he died, then I received survivor benefits, thus the (joint) bank told me to keep my bank, since the SS checks were set up, thus if I were to switch the survivor SS to the joint account, then could take up to 3 months for SS to switch from my bank to the joint account.

Ask tthe bank, how the hell would we know?

Yes, the guardianship court order is what they need. The bank just wants to make sure you have the legal power to take control.

    Call the bank and ask.

But why do you need to move the accounts? You should be able to do all the banking online so as not to disrupt the current finances.
