    You have two equations:

    a + b = 37.....1)

    a - b = 7.......2)

    Add the two together and b disappears....2a = 44 so a = 22

    From 2) 22 - b = 7 so b = 15

    x+x+7=37, 2x=30,x=15cm where x =length of shorter piece

Well, you do it yourself. Subtract the seven from the 37. Then divide the number by two. That might be your answer, or couldn’t you think of that yourself?
