Jeep Transmission slip?
Hi, I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.0 CRD with 160,000kms on it and the transmission has just lost all drive. Can’t go forward or reverse. We were coming up to an intersection and went to take off again and it was like it was in neutral and the engine light has come on. The dealer ship has it now and are saying it may just need a transmission service as the fluid is burnt and has glittery shavings in it. Is this possible to just require a transmission service to fix it or are they just looking for money? Apparently when they got it off the truck it engaged gear but slips. Thanks

It's definitely the cheapest way to start, before complete rebuild/replacement. I'd make sure they read all the OBD codes first.

It's possible that the chips and dirt clogged up the filter and your transmission kicked out it's a safety feature so that your transmission doesn't burn up without oil. A transmission service means that they're going to flush out all the old oil and put in a new filter if the transmission kicked in it's possible that cleaning out all the old fluid and putting in a new filter might get you some more miles out of it but now after they put the new oil and the filter into it don't pay them if the transmission doesn't run! because no idiot put fresh transmission fluid and filter into a transmission that's physically damaged and I repair shop has the necessity to know if it's physically damaged or simply plugged up

I'd take my vehicle out of that joint right away. Even the dumbest transmission mechanic knows once a tranny slips it's junk and needs rebuilding.

It does not take very many brains to know the transmission is shot. From what you said I do not even have to take anyone else's word for that.
