what resources are available online that i can check to make a vague prediction?
we're supposed to have a chance of severe weather tomorrow. i've always been into meteorology, but i want to see behind the scenes of a forecast and see whats used to tell us the weather may be severe.
I know i need to look at different temps at atmosphere heights, wind speed & direction at different heights, humidity, etc.

open your front door . go outside . look up . learn the different clouds .
that's the way people have been doing it for centuries .
if you can get a barometer , when it is rising the weather is generally getting better , when it drops it is getting stormy . try going to noaa.gov for more info .

Anyone can forecast weather. Bear in mind that some forecasts will be better than others.

Sure. Just look at the weather maps for the past few days and project the next day or so. You can often do as well as the professionals do. Of course, a course in meteorology helps. I took the "Weather" course for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. That's another good reason to join that group.
