Christians, Do you still use Pascall's wager?

For those unfammiliar its pretty much "shoudnt atheists believe in our God just 8n case its true because that would mean hell is real?"

The problem with this comes when you expand to accound for enery religion that has a punishment for disbelief. Example: "shouldnt christians believe in Allah just in case Islam is true?"

True Christians do not use Pascal’s Wager when it comes to belief in Almighty God. Even though Pascal was a professed Christian, and tried to reason with non-believers in a way that he felt would help them (a line of reasoning that we now know as Pascal’s Wager), he unwittingly sanctioned the argument used by God’s archenemy, Satan, which we find in the first two chapters of Job.

Pascal’s Wager is not the suitable motive for serving God. It is wholly based on self-interest and that is how Pascal unwittingly sanctioned Satan’s argument in Job: that (1) Job served God only for what Job could get out of it and, (2) God was, in effect, bribing Job to worship Him. Satan was wrong on both counts. At Job 2:4, Satan extended his charges to include “man” and not just Job. That means us. Pascal, although he did not realize it, extended this self-interest attitude and motive to us: “Believe in God – what have you got to lose – if God is true, you get the desires of your heart. It’s a no lose situation.”

True Christians believe in, love and worship God Almighty for the right motive, not for what we can get out of it.

I never did. I don't think it will help you just to believe in God in case he is real. You need a firm conviction.

A Christian by the name of Blaise Pascal suggested that we behave AS IF the Christian God really does exist, since if He doesn't, we've lost nothing, but if He DOES, we've gained a lovely Afterlife, and avoided eternal TORMENT.

But, if Mr. P is right, we've got a lot more to worry about!

IF you and I lack a belief in the God known as ALLAH, we shall be denied the joys of PARADISE, and be condemned to HELL.

IF you and I lack a belief in the God known as ZEUS we shall be denied the joys of the FIELDS of ELYSIUM, and be condemned to HADES

IF you and I lack a belief in the God known as ODIN we shall be denied the joys of VALHALLA,, and be condemned to NIFFELHEIM.

IF you and I lack a belief in the God known as PHUQUIORAS, we shall be denied the joys of the ETERNAL FEAST, and be condemned to the OUTER DARKNESS..

IF you and I lack a belief in the God known as The GITCHEE MANITOU, we shall be denied the joys of the HAPPY HUNTING GROUNDS, and be condemned to WANDER the WIND.

And I have been more recently informed that if you and I lack a belief in the believe in Mortal Kombat Gods , the Elder gods will have Raiden send you to Shinnok in Netherrealm to be burned forever

How many of THOSE Gods are you going to worship, just to make certain that NONE of them punish you for NOT believing?

I am aware of it, but since I haven't read as much into Pascal's writings, no. It's often presented in a very crude way, so I would want to read Pascal's writings in it's full context before passing comment on whether it is legitimate or illegitimate.

    They do, but they shouldn't.

We can't make ourselves believe in something that makes no sense. That's not how belief works.

    Many do.

This is why inbreeding is bad if any of you have any questions about it. This moron is one of the shining examples of why abortion and birth control isn't a bad idea.
