about the laws of God...?

I have heard there are over Six hundred laws but the average person nowadays only know the TEN commandments. Are we in trouble here? Shouldn't we know all the laws? Will God hold this against me and you when you go before him. Please this is an honest question and I would really like a answer from someone knowledgably in this.

That law, with all 613 points of law, was a covenant law with the legal parties being God and the Hebrews of old. So you are not held to that law.

Jesus, who was God Incarnate, and the party of the first part in that covenant, died, thus ending that law forever. It no longer exists. Furthermore, it was the "book of the law" which was ratified as the old covenant, which included general law for all mankind, which also went the way of the dodo.

Jesus took care of the problem of the actions of sin, having taken away the sins of the world. The only thing left that can condemn you is.... you. What you are, by nature, being a "bad tree" aka a person in possession of a "heart of stone" that needs to be replaced.

John 16:7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8  And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

    9  Of sin, because they believe not on me;

What will condemn you now is your rejection of Him. You must believe on Him, which includes believing what He said and taught. Many a so-called Christian accepts the Person of Jesus, but reject what He said and taught, and what He stood for.

You are referring to 'The Law' (aka, the Law of Moses).

However, that is the Old Covenant made with the people of Israel.

And while it is instructive for Christians, Christians are under the New Covenant in Christ.

It is not longer about what you do (trying to keep 'The Law') ...

It is about to whom you belong.

  • many of the 600+ are only pertaining to The Nation of Israel..... and the rest are all covered by The Instruction of God given to us by His Son Jesus... if one strives to follow God's Instruction all of the "Law of God " pertaining to those of The Body of God;s Church are covered under two simple Commandments.........

Love The Lord thy God with all thy Heart, soul, mind, and strength......

and... Love thy neighbor as thyself

that is Jewish Law. For Jewish people. Not for Christians. When Jesus came lived sinlessly and died on the cross and rose from the dead, Jesus is the new covenant

The 10 Commandments are to be observed today, NOT the other rituals/ laws/ washings/rules of the Old Covenant; the Pharisees turned God's Laws into a burden. The 'Royal Law' is kept by observing the 10 Commandments: Sabbath included. 1st Four of the 10 Commandments are showing love of and towards Yahweh, the next 6: love of and towards neighbours. Christ kept the 10 Commandments, He as the WORD, created them and gave them to humankind. We're told to 'walk as HE walked' so do. In the book of Revelation we see that God's small and time church WILL be 'keeping' His Commandments, not ignoring them! God's true church is identified as 'spiritual Israel' and is NOT made up of ONLY Jews.

Man is the only one that makes laws.

  • The Ten Commandments and the other 600+ laws were Laws given only to the nation of Israel when Moses was leading them, they do not apply to Gentiles or Christians, they never have. And when Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law and died, the Law was done away with. Christians are under two commandments, to Love Jehovah God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind, this is the greatest commandment, the second is, you must love your neighbor as yourself. Matthew 22:37-40

Eh, I'll just hire an angel lawyer to represent me.

Source(s): Maybe one of those babby angels. Cherubim I think they're called?
