Never generalize. Many women instinctively look for a mate who will be a good provider of security and genes for her children. If they can't get both money and genes, they'll settle for one or the other.

In some cases it's because they want a man to support them (aka having "traditional values"). In other cases it's because they've worked hard to attain a lucrative career and don't want some ne'er-do-well siphoning off their earnings. Women are less likely to fall prey to gold diggers than are men. We're just not willing to pay for sex because we don't have to.
