Russia attacked Poland in 1939. Why didn’t Britain go to war with Russia and Germany?

Russia And Britains Were Allies. The British Declared War on Germany After The Invasion of Poland, along with the French. The French Pushed Into The Saarland In Germany But just kinda left

Britain and France saw Germany as the bigger threat to their dominance in Europe so they focused on them. Another reason was because the treaty with Poland was aimed at protecting them against Germany so they were under no obligation to declare war on the Soviet Union. They were required to provide them aid but they were not required to declare war.

Cos the UK-Polish treaty was not aimed at defending Poland as such, but an attempt to deter Germany from attacking anybody else

They assumed France could cope with Germany if they attacked westward - the aim was to encircle germany with a "threat"

That is - it regarded germany as the enemy - and they werent bothered about russia- cos to be a danger to the UK it would have to attack through Germany and France

Because just over twenty years before Germans had been killing Britons.

Because Britain had been involved in long-term diplomatic initiatives to prevent war with Germany.

And as demonstrated by the SS Athenia Germany were prepared to immediately start killing British civilians.

Because they had a mutual defense treaty with Poland.

It's called "spectacular hypocrisy." The nosy "West" likewise sat on its thumbs & did nothing to Poland as it grabbed chunks of Czechoslovakia while Germany occupied the Sudetenland it was given by "the West" in the Munich Agreement. It sat on its thumbs as Italy helped itself to Albania in April '39. It was too cowardly to get involved in a war that it knew it wouldn't have a snowball's chance of winning. It offered its 2nd & 3rd-rate arms to Finland in that war in Nov. '39.

The whole idea was to suppress Germany so they could continue to be the hegemons of Europe. as had enjoyed since the Thirty Years War.

Russia and the UK already had agreements between them - they were already on the same side. The fact that Britain declared war with Germany and not Russia proves that Britain didn't care one iota about Poland and that's also why they never honored their promise to come to Poland's aid when Germany attacked. The only thing Britain needed Poland for was to provoke Germany into attacking so they (Britain) would be justified in declaring war.

Russia knew that Roosevelt was trying to get the United States into the war and was going to wait until the dust settled before charging into Germany dragging Communism behind them. If Hitler was too weak to put up a defense, the spread of Communism throughout Europe would be easy.

Unfortunately, Stalin showed his hand when he began building up his weapons near Germany's border in preparation for an attack. Hitler learned about it and launched Operation Barbarossa as a defensive measure. This was the same day it was openly known that Russia was associated with the Allies.

The high alert was on Germany who forced the Brit's hand after multiple warnings.

The Soviets invaded over 2 weeks later. The Soviet invasion of Poland was a military operation by the Soviet Union without a formal declaration of war (probably because Poland felt their hands were full).

Because the elite in the UK was hypocritical and because Chamberlain wanted revenge for being fooled by Hitler over Czechoslovakia.

The same question was asked in parliament in 1939 and the government response was Poland knew that "the agreement should only cover the case of aggression by Germany.” For some reason Soviet aggression was treated differently from German aggression.
