Layover Q?

I've never had a layover before when traveling and I was wondering if the workers transfer my checked bag to the next plane or if I have to pick it up and drop it off again. I also wanted to know how I would know where to go (gate-wise) after getting off the first plane? Thanks!

If your bags aren't transferred you would be told in advance.

Just follow the destination boards for your next flight.

If you can't do that you shouldn't be travelling alone.

They usually transfer the bag for you. You will be told if that's not going to be the case.

Your new gate might be on the boarding pass; you will receive both boarding passes when you check in for your first flight. If it's not, there will be electronic monitors when you arrive at your layover airport. Just look for departures, then look for your destination city, and then find your flight number (which will be on your boarding pass) - then you will see the gate you need. Follow the signs to the new gate and wait for boarding.

MAYBE In most situations it is a yes.

It depends on the airlines involved and the time between flights.

you can get specific information from your combination of flights when you check in for the first one.

The procedure is not identical for every possible connection you can dream up at every airport.

If you want a specific answer just give the Airline names and your connection place.

Well Meghan think for moment how did you find the gate for your first flight?

You will be given information on your second flight boarding card or you can look on the information screens at your change of plane Airport.

They also have Airline crew at your arrival gate you can ask.

You can look at your baggage tags when you check in to confirm if they are just tagged to connection Airport or have information on your second flight also on the tag.

Checked bags are usually transferred by the airline. And you can always ASK what will happen, when you check the bags.

You will go to the gate number given on your boarding pass.

ask when you check your bags .If your travel is all domestic.) Example, you go from Baltimore to Omaha, with a layover in Chicago) your bags will be checked from Baltimore to Omaha. If you go from Paris to Cleveland with a stopover at Boston, your bags would be checked to Boston ( your port of entry) and at Boston, once you cleared customs and immigration, you would check your bags again, this time to Cleveland

Whether the bag is transferred or not depends on whether you check it to the next stop or all the way. If there is something you would need during the layover, just check the bag to that location and retrieve it.

As far as where to go, just ask. Usually, there will be signs directing you to the correct terminal, if not to the correct gate.
