The Bible’s Viewpoint Will Diplomacy Bring World Peace?

WOULD you like to see an end to all wars? Surely there must be some diplomatic solution to national and international conflicts. Many feel that if world leaders simply worked together, war could be done away with. Likely, however, you are disappointed with the results of diplomacy. For centuries diplomats have ratified treaties, formulated resolutions, and held summit meetings, but few issues have been permanently resolved.

The Bible has much to say about diplomacy and peace. It answers the following questions: What factors presently prevent diplomacy from producing peace? Should Christians involve themselves in diplomacy? How will true peace finally be attained?

Diplomacy COULD prevent wars, but that's not really the way the world works.

Weak nations try to eliminate wars, or at least delay them, by bargaining, perhaps even in good faith. They don't want war, not because it's terrible and kills people and wastes resources--they don't want war because they know they're outgunned and they'll lose.

Strong nations see diplomacy as just a waste of time. They always believe God favors their imperialism. They want a war because they know they'll WIN! About the best they can get with diplomacy is a good compromise. But why should they compromise when they know they could get EVERYTHING they want with a war? Why did they spend so much to build up an unbeatable aggressive force if they were just going to compromise through diplomacy?

Even strong nations that pretend to be Christian see things this way. Every war is a crusade, Us Godly Folk against Those Heathens. And of course they trumpet their victory as God's favor, proof that God supported their side.

We live in Satan's realm (per the Bible), so there's always going to be wars and suffering until He comes back.
