What happens when you spill water on a power strip or electrical outlet?

All I can find are test/ demo videos about "water resistant" power strips. I'd like to know what would happen if I accidentally spilled water/ liquids over my regular power strips.

    They're not usually watertight.

If you don't get sparks right away, the water should drain out, dry out, and not create a long-term risk.

Basically the non copper parts in it rusts. Later on it will become useless. Maybe a year or two. Copper too corrodes with moisture. A green mold type rust forms as the copper gets eaten up.

If the water came in contact with the hot (power) side and either the neutral or ground side, it would trip the breaker.

If the water came in contact with only the hot side, there is a chance for electrocution since the water around the device would carry the voltage.

just unplug it and let it dry out!
