When losing weight do fat cells shrink or disappear?
I read somewhere that fat cells are shrinking in volume during the weight loss process, meaning the number of them is the same. Also fat cells are dividing once they achieve 4 times their mass into more cells that's why previously fat people have trouble keeping that weight off because they carry many more fat cells. Is this true? Don't they die off after some time?

Fat cells shrink when you lose fat. They don't really ever disappear, but they get replaced at a rate of 8% a year regardless of weight. Studies have shown that individuals who are sedentary and eat poor diets actually gain fat cells over time, making weight loss even more difficult.

Basically all correct. Fat cells can die but they are almost always replaced at the same rate.
