Why does my Pomeranians butt have so much undercoat?

I have 4 Pomeranians. I groom them regularly once a week, I usually don t forget. Sometimes extra if I m bored.

When I brush using the "slick" brush, the angled needle like one, 2 of the dogs keep filling the brush in hair I m pulling from the undercoat. Is this something I need to remove completely? I spent about 15 minutes and 20 brush fulls on their butts alone. They get professionally groomed evert 3 months. If there is something more I can do or look into doing let me know.

The other two are fine when brushing. Minimal shed, minimal brush fallout.

When is your next grooming appointment? If you groomer uses the power dryer on your dog, that would blow out all that under coat that you are brushing out. The groomer does a complete brush out before bathing & with the use of a power dryer gets rid of all that undercoat. Make sure the groomer knows to put cotton in the dogs ears before using the power dryer. Some dogs really freak out at the sound of the dryer & don't like the wind in their faces. Your groomer knows.

This is why I no longer adopts long or double coated breeds, I just don’t want to mess with the fur. After decades of huskies, I’ve done my doooooty.

I had a friend with poms and they did tend to have furry butts and she had to clean them a lot. She started having the groomer shave what she called a “landing strip” on their butts so thier poop wouldn’t get caught on their fur.

If you don’t have one already, a furminator comb, while very expensive, is a great way to remove lose hair. After years of huskies and having every other sort of comb you could imagine I finally invested in a furminator when my last doublecoated dog was very old and I was making an effort to keep my house relatively fur-free. I should have bought one years ago.
