How can anyone still be breathing after being the victim of a Blood Eagle?
We normally breathe by the movement of the diaphragm within the vacuum of the chest cavity. During a Blood Eagle, the vacuum in the chest cavity is compromised and the lungs are outside the body, where the diaphragm no longer has an effect on them. So why, in movies and TV shows about Vikings, are the victims still breathing?

Because I am Viking, I have watched History's Vikings from the "getgo". When Jarle Borg's Blood Eagle was started by Ragnar, I squirmed... A LOT!
Being in the medical field, I have been around a lot of blood and it never bothered me. In reality, a person can only tolerate so much pain and then they pass out.
So when the knife was cutting open the skin on the back, a human may tolerate that, but not an ax chopping through the ribs!
I do commend Michael Hirst for his brilliant work on Vikings. The cast and crew never once said the "F" word or any other cuss words.
