My dog has IBS what to do?

My German Shepherd is less than a year old. I’ve had her for a few months now. And I don’t want me to leave her outside but she can barely stay inside for more than 30-50 minutes with out crying cause she has to go. yes I’m going to make an apt. Yes I’ve thought about her food and no I don’t give her table scraps. Yes she’s had all her shots. I’ve herd German shepherds are known for bowl problems. I can’t afford those big sliding glass attachment dog doors right now so she can go in and out. Any suggestions. I was thinking about going to the store tomorrow and getting a stole binder for her.

You are NOT a vet, therefore you CANNOT self-diagnose your dog! Take the dog to a recommended vet. (Consult your local GSD Club if there is one - you can find a list of all clubs through the National GSD Club) if you have not already found a vet you like, and did not get this dog from a reputable breeder - who could recommend one.

IBS can be caused by stress or diet, but inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is different and has auto-immune causes in some cases, but requires different treatments than IBS and GSD are a breed KNOWN TO BE more prone to it (IBD) than IBS, according to this article:

    https://pets.webmd.com/dogs/inflammatory-bowel-dis...

In addition, your dog may have intestinal worms (if it has been acquired) but has not had a FECAL run, and EVEN if it is on a heart worm preventative that has a wormer IN it, (that is a QUOTE from MY vet).

GSD can also be prone to EPI which is another digestive issue where the dog does not produce enough DIGESTIVE ENZYMES. (This can 'crop up' at any point in the dog's life, it is not nec. born with it.) Again, each of these issues has is own symptoms, and treatments, and needs to be ruled (in or out) by YOUR VET. Each problem can be controlled or fixed but dogs are not cheap (esp dogs not gotten from reputable sources). You should also KNOWN that a "dog door" can be installed in sliding glass door situations and has been made, and available for the last 25+ years.

DO NOT SELF-TREAT! if you do not have the money to see a vet, then you do not have the money to have a dog. In that case, simply turn the dog over to a GSD rescue group, if you can't or won't GO to a vet.

BE ADVISED: It is considered DOG ABUSE to have a sick or injured pet and to REFUSE TO PAY for veterinary treatment (even if you lack the funds to pay for treatment) because you can surrender the dog to AVOID => CLASS ONE FELONY charges.

You cannot self diagnose here - there are too many other things with the same symptom. Why have you waited so long to make a vet appointment for her? German Shepherds are NOT known for bowel problems, so I don't know where you heard that from, it's nonsense. And a stool binder may make the situation worse - you need a diagnosis from the vet, and not trial and error. You cannot treat a condition when you do not know the cause. Spend the money you would waste on that stool binder on her vet visit.

Then only thing you can do is consult a vet. YOU cannot be certain she has IBS and are just `assuming`.

Loose stools can be caused by many things.

Until you have a vets diagnosis there is not a lot you can do but to let her go outside when she asks to do so.

Has she been like this since you got her?

Have her loose stools got mucus on them?

If so, She may have colitis, which needs treatment from the vet.

    So....Vets asap.

First of all, you have no idea that she has IBS and if she just needs to go often then this is something that needs addressing.

Start with WHAT food are you feeding her. No dog needs to go every 30-50 minutes and if she is then she is losing a lot of nutrients that her body needs so you must sort this.

Look at the quality of food and start with that, plus is she up to date on worming etc.. Don't make any drastic changes such as trying lots of different foods as that will make her worse. In fact if you say you've thought about food are you meaning that you've tried different ones. If ever you change food it must be done over at least a week and never just changed in one meal.

Stool binder won't necessarily solve the problem. Finding the right food and making sure she doesn't have any other health issue will.

Probably has PARVO. Bullshit she "has all her shots" when for a "few months" you've done NOTHING to help this dog.

Diarrhea is a SYMPTOM not an illness. You seriously think constipation her is the answer?

The BEST thing for this unloved and neglected puppy would be to take it to a no-kill shelter and surrender it. You have NO business being a pet owner!!!!
