Do you think history is so clear-cut that emperors can be grouped into these categories?

Historians usually refer to Roman emperors as either “good” (i.e. Augustus, Vespasian, Trajan, Marcus Aurelius) or “bad” (i.e. Nero, Caligula, Domitian, Commodus).

Historians tend not to put black and white hats on the goodies and baddies, because they realise that the practice of reducing everyone into over-simplified lists is best left to Listverse.

Historians do no such thing. Historians write about history, and look at both the good sides and bad sides of historical characters. They may conclude that some emperors did more damage than good.

No, real life is never so "clear-cut" that you can easily group peoples or cultures all the time.
