What is a better brand of stove? A GE or Whirlpool?

Brands are no longer an indication of anything. They have all gone through up and down models and makes across the board. Units that seem to run like expected for as long as expected, o the lemons that have issues as soon as the warranty runs it's course. Warranties are another entire issue, like whirlpool changing their 5 year sealed system warranty to one year, apparently the paperwork does not matter. It is a gamble with any of these products now, they are all made poorly, disposable society and all, reviews are no longer trustworthy. Now, many actually actively scrub the web of negatives, it's amazing how easily info can be manipulated now a days.

My recent experience with Whirlpool directs me to stay the heck away, but that's specific to laundry equipment. My long-term experience with Whirlpool cooking equipment, in my own 20 year old stove, is that it is dogged and relentless. You could do a lot worse.
To the best of my knowledge GE's kitchen appliances are still American made. It's only their laundry equipment that is coming from China.
Also consider Frigidaire, which is American made. Very handsome equipment.

it is entirely possible these days that both are made by the same company in the same factory ... and that neither is made by the company whose name is on the label. diligent internet research recommended. or consult Consumer Reports

The answer used to be GE, but quite unfortunately they've started marketing their brand bodies over cheap Chinese parts. Even worse, the customer service has gone drastically downhill and should you have a problem, they'll fight you on servicing the device.
And so, for me at least, Whirlpool would be the winner.
