I follow Pope Benedict's view of the Rosary, Can you see its value over the mechanical answers on here?

I pray (the rosary) with the great simplicity, just as my parents did. They both loved the Holy Rosary. And this love increased as they aged. The older we are, the less intellectual efforts that are possible, and the more an internal refuge is needed, thus to dive into the prayers of the Church. So I pray the Holy Rosary just like they did.”

Repetition is valuable when you are not feeling well. It helps to put you in a calm, meditative state. The Rosary is NOT VAIN REPETITION.

Benedict/Ratzinger is an excellent scholar. As a Pope, he was also an excellent catechist - even though he personally believes more like a Lutheran and a Calvinist - than a Catholic. Read all his stuff and you'll see. He's right about the Rosary, though. Lutheran or not!

I hope that you don't succumb to any negativity posted here regarding the praying of the rosary. I'm not Catholic, I don't do it but I can perfectly well see its value to those of the Catholic faith. It's one of those 'just do it' things because it brings calm and clarity to your faith and you truly believe that it produces results. It's odd how some habits of faith will meet with approval and others don't. I've seldom read criticism of meditation for example and yet engaging in it is often a part of someone's faith. People often attack what they don't understand. I'd say that any Christian who attacks another Christian for their way of engaging with the faith, is not a Christian at all. And anyone with no faith should just stay out of the arena.

The whole idea of the rosary

    was conceived by someone

    with obsessive-compulsive disorder,

(precisely counted, but totally arbitrary numbers

of repetitions of a useless behavior)

that was warned against, by Jesus,

    according to Mathew, chapter 6.

    But, at least,

it keeps you busy, (an internal refuge)

    so you don't have time

    to help your neighbor

    with anything useful.

    John Popelish

"The older we are, the less intellectual efforts that are possible, and the more an internal refuge is needed." Jesus didn't think that way. John was about 90 when he wrote his gospel. God commanded his worshipers to read his word in an undertone day and night. Didn't mention age. Jesus specifically commanded his disciples NOT to repeat the same thing over and over. I see you are choosing popes. Should we follow Pope's view or should we follow Christ's view. Can you see the value of listening to Christ? He's the head of the Christian congregation.

I pray the Rosary with my mother, who suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia. I see the peace it gives her when we do this. I will never knock anyone who prays with the Rosary.
