Why does the media always give serial killers such cool names?

A nifty catchy headline too sell more papers or grab the attention. With the absence of a real name they come up with an avatar that encapsulates and personifies the criminal at large.

Because you're just gullible enough to pay attention when they do this, while ignoring all those killers who don't have "cool names."

media is in advertisement business. and such exciting names get the masses interested in finding out more and they are more attached to their newspapers/ radio/ tv/ smart phone etc. so thats why basically they are given exciting names.

To sell papers and get people to watch their programmes.
