    f(x) = 12x^2 + 2

    f(x+h) = 12(x+h)^2 + 2

    f(x+h) - f(x) = 12(x+h)^2 +2 - 12x^2 -2

    = 12x^2 +24xh + 12h^2 - 12x^2

    = 24xh - 12h^2

    {f(x+h) - f(x)}/h = 24x - 12h

    as h --> 0, the limit of f'(x) = 24x

    We're not taking the summer school class that you are, so do it yourself or ask your teacher.
